Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA, 16th August 2024 — The Deimos satellite was launched into a sun-synchronous orbit onboard the SpaceX Transporter-11 flight, it carries the first of many Aethero NxN-ECM computers to be operated in space, as well as the first space-rated edge computer to achieve 100 TOPS of performance and the first space edge computer to run on a COTS Nvidia Jetson Orin (SOC) system-on-chip.

Aethero has confirmed successful contact with Deimos, beginning the commissioning process of bringing its subsystems online. Over its 18-month mission, Deimos and the NxN-ECM onboard will utilize Aethero’s comprehensive software suite to perform over-the-air updates, run inference onboard the satellite, as well as perform training on the edge to usher in a new era of adaptiveness for space platforms.

This mission is also a test for Aethero itself: equipped with weak transmitter and a low-capacity battery system, Deimos will validate the ability of the Aethero team and their computer in performing communication operations with limited bandwidth and extreme load control in power-constrained environments.

The experience gained from this mission will be critical to Aethero’s future vision of building out orbital data infrastructure that can operate onboard any space platform, enabling Aethero to be manufacturer agnostic – allowing for interoperability and wide compatibility.
