Aethero and Ansys, A Synopsys Company, form a strategic partnership to accelerate the development of high-performance space-rated computers using advanced simulation

San Francisco, CA, 6th August 2025 — Today, a strategic partnership was announced between Aethero, a disruptive designer and manufacturer of space-rated high-end computers, and Ansys – A Synopsys Company, the global leader in engineering simulation. By joining forces, they will collaborate to accelerate the design and development of radiation-hardened edge computing modules and high-performance computing (HPC) clusters capable of withstanding the extreme environments of space.

The announcement highlights Aethero’s successful integration of Ansys simulation solutions throughout its hardware and software design processes. Aethero leverages Ansys tools to analyze the effects of mechanical, radiation, thermal dynamics, and electromagnetic interference on their systems. This allows Aethero to identify structural and operational vulnerabilities before moving to physical production, drastically reducing development timelines and costs.

“Aethero’s hybrid approach of utilizing radiation-hardened and tolerant components alongside COTS components allows us to push the boundaries of space computing,” said Amit Pinnamaneni, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Aethero. “Ansys tools allow us to balance and optimize the required shielding, enclosure design, and hardware design to support the requirement of operation in the space environment. The simulation results are verified by our test-as-you-fly approach through real-life testing, and we have found results to be identical.”

To guarantee the resilience of its edge computing platforms, Aethero relies on a comprehensive suite of Ansys electrical and thermal analysis software. This includes Ansys HFSS and SIwave for signal and power integrity verification, EMC Plus for component-level radiation tolerance analysis, and Icepak alongside Thermal Desktop for managing the severe temperature fluctuations of shadowed regions and intense solar heating. Furthermore, Aethero utilizes the Ansys Systems Tool Kit (STK) and Orbit Determination Tool Kit (ODTK) to digitally study overall mission performance for both their platforms/spacecraft as well as computers.

The partnership showcases how Aethero’s goal to bring edge and high-performance computing to in-space data processing can be achieved with faster turnaround and guaranteed reliability. By vertically integrating highly accurate digital simulations of the harsh space environment into their engineering workflows, Aethero and Ansys are cutting down design cycles and making resilient, autonomous space infrastructure a reality.

Aethero and Ansys look forward to a long and productive partnership in bringing about a new era of advanced computing in the space.
